Ingredients

(1 Cup (200 Grams)) : Dry White Peas Soaked for 4-6 hours in a boiling water
(2 medium) : Onions Finely chopped
(2 Medium) : Tomatoes Finely chopped
(7 - 8 Cloves) : Garlic Finely Chopped
(2-3 ) : Green Chillies Finely chopped
(Pinch of) : Asafoetida
(3 - 4 TBSPN) : Oil
(1 tspn) : Mustard Seeds
(7-8 Nos.) : Curry Leaves
(To Taste) : Salt
(2 tspn) : Turmeric Powder
(1 - 2 Tbspn) : Kashmiri Red Chilly Powder
(1- 2 tspn) : Garam Masala
(2 Tbspn) : Lemon Juice
(To Garnish) : Coriander Leaves Finely Chopped
(1 Medium) : Red Onion Finely Chopped - To garnish
(1 Bowl) : Sev To serve with

Steps

Done

Pressure cook soaked dry white peas for 4 -5 whistles.

Let it cool.

Heat oil in a pan.

Add mustard seeds and let them crackled.

Add Curry leaves, Finely chopped chillies, finely chopped garlic and a pinch of hing.

Saute them well.

Add finely chopped onion and let them cook till translucent.

Add Finely chopped tomatoes and mix well.

Let it cook for 5 10 minutes till they are soft.

Open the pressure cooker and add warm water to it.

Mix it well.

Keep it on a medium flame.

Add cooked Tomato and Onion mixture to the cooker.

Mix it well.

Season it with all spices. USUALLY we keep it so much SPICY.

Cook it on a medium to high flame for 5 -10 minutes till the water is somewhat thick.

Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and the USAL is ready.

In a serving bowl, take USAL and garnish it with finely chopped onion, SEV and coriander leaves.

Can be served with TARI(Garlic/red chilly chutney) and a BUN (Bread) Too !!!
